Measure more than the installation opening
Record the narrowest doorway, turns along the delivery route, stair access and the final alcove. At the appliance position, measure width, height and depth, then account for the connections and clearances specified by the manufacturer. Include the open door and the space you need to load a basket. A compact machine can fit a nominal recess while still obstructing a hallway or preventing a closet door from closing. Measure those working conditions before using the cabinet dimensions to select a shortlist.
Verify that the pair is actually compatible
A washer and dryer from the same brand are not automatically an approved stacking pair. Find both exact model numbers and the permitted stacking kit in manufacturer documentation. Midea MLH25N7BWW is a standalone front load washer, while MLE25H7BWW is a separate heat pump dryer; those identities alone do not establish a supported stack. Ask the retailer to identify the approved combination and required hardware before paying for installation. Keep a record of that configuration with your order and the installation instructions.
Choose a layout around daily use
A side-by-side arrangement uses more floor width but may put controls and loading openings within easier reach. A stacked arrangement saves width while changing how you reach the dryer and its service points. Consider who will use the machines and whether they can comfortably reach controls, filters and detergent compartments. Test the practical layout with measurements, rather than assuming the smallest footprint creates the easiest laundry routine. Storage for detergent and a place for a basket should be part of the same room plan.
Budget for the complete pair
Compare the delivered, installed cost of both appliances, stacking hardware if applicable, connections and old-appliance removal. Check service coverage for each model and consider how you will handle oversized bedding. A compact pair can process washing and drying separately, whereas a combo uses one drum for both stages. Choose based on your weekly load pattern and available connections; neither format is inherently the right answer for every small home. Make sure the final budget covers the complete usable arrangement rather than one attractive appliance price.
